Hukuru Miskiiy
Hukuru miskiiy (Friday Mosque) is one of the oldest mosques built in throughout the Maldives. It was built in 1656 during the reign of Sultan Ibrahim Iskandhar l. This mosque was built with coral stones, including all the walls of interior and exterior. And walls are sophisticatedly carved with Arabic writings, calligraphy and ornament patterns, inside the Hukuru Miskiiy there is a prosperity of amazing coral carvings and skilled lacquer work. Roof, window frames and the doors are made in different types of wood found throughout the Maldives. Like: teak, red sandalwood and redwood. Outside the Hukuru Miskiiy there are number of ancient tombstones implanted in memory of past heroes and nobles, sultans.
The Islamic Centre
Maldives has transcendent architectural landmark structures , among these all the most famous architectural landmark is the three-storey Islamic Centre which was opened in November 1984 in male’.
Its named as, Masjid-al-Sultan Mohammed Thakurufaanu-al-A’z'am. The biggest grand Friday mosque (Hukuru Miskiiy) in Maldives, accommodating over more than 5,000 worshipers. This transcendent architecture includes library and various conference halls. The interior walls are decorated with magnificent woodcarvings and Arabic calligraphy.
Medhu Ziyaarath
Medhu Ziyaarath is constructed opposite to the Hukuru Miskiiy, as a Shrine for Abu-al-Barakaath Yusuf-al-Barbari. A northern african. The hero which converted Maldives into Islam back in 1153AD
Munnaaru
Right beside to Hukuru Miskiiy there is the Munnaaru, A lustrous white minaret which was built by Sultan Ibrahim Iskandhar l in 1675. This minaret was used to call faithful prayers by chief Muezzin of Male’.
Tome of Mohammed Thakurufaanu
Sultan Ghaazee Mohammed Thakurufaanu is one of the greatest heroes in Maldives history. He liberated Maldives from Portuguese, which ruled maldives for 15 years after defeating Sultan Ali Vl in 1558. This liberation is celebrated in 1st of Islamic month of Rabeeu’i Awwal. Its recognized as the National Day of Maldives.
The tome of Sultan Ghaazee Mohammed Thakurufaanu is implanted in the compound of Bihuroazu Kamanaa Miskiiy
Sultan Park and The National Museum
The Sultan Park was originally the sultans palace grounds, which was demolished right after changing the Maldives Republic to Sultanate and back to Republic within timeline of 16years (1953-1968).
However a three-storey building right beside the sultans palace is still unmolested since then.
This three-storey building is used as the National Museum of Maldives, which was opened on 19th November 1952. The museum exhibits large varied collection of dazzling defunct era including Coralstone Head of lord Buddha (11th century piece taken from Alifu Thoddu), Engraved wooden panel (13th Century piece taken from Hukuru Miskiiy), stone objects, artifacts from the pre-islamic period to the royal antiquated like thrones, palanquins, royal sunshades, costumes, shoes, coins, ornaments, arms, armours, early weaponaries, coral stone sculptures, lacquered wooden cultcripts, miniature hand-written tabs, hookahs, traditional drums etc.
